Hello all,
we've recently adopted a three-year-old tomcat. He's been given a clean bill of health - FIV negative, FelV negative, strong heart, good teeth, glossy coat. When he first came to us he had a pretty bad case of dermatitis caused by a flea allergy, but it has cleared up beautifully.
At the shelter, he was fed mostly dry food, but we switched him to only wet and raw, which he has done very well on for 4 weeks now. He has made friends with our other three cats and acts completely non-stressed and happy. He now also has access to our garden through the catflap.
The one thing we have noticed, though, is that he seems to love to drink water. We've tested his BG twice, and he's been perfctly green (5.5/99 and 3.9/70.2). He drinks somewhere between 1 and 2 cups of water every 24 hours, as far as we can tell. His appetite is normal, and he does not seem to urinate more than the other cats do.
We are going to text his BG another few times this week and take him in for bloodwork on Friday to check his kidney and thryoid function. But we also just wanted to ask: Do some cats simply like to drink more than others while being perfectly healthy?
Thanks.
Jane
