Non depot insulin to a depot insulin

Pros and cons of non depot insulin vs depot insulin?

Sounds like depot insulins are a pro. And cons besides cost?

What do I need to be aware of when I switch from a non depot insulin to a depot insulin like lantus?
Is the dose the same as a non depot insulin?

Do I need to adjust the dosage gradually?

I know a con of a depot insulin is that it requires more of a strict 12 hour shooting schedule where with a non depot insulin, there's more flexibility.

One thing to know about the depot insulin is that the depot can affect several cycles. Like if you decrease the dose, the larger dose might still come into play over the next few cycles. With a non depot, it's in and out, no affect on other cycles.

Dose may or may not be the same. Bud was mostly dosed at 1.2 on ProZinc, but did well on 0.75 of Levemir.

Once you decide you want to start Lantus, you can post over in the Lantus/Levemir forum for dosing advice. Whatever dose you decide to start at, you should hold that dose for at least 5-7 days. Unless of course kitty drops low, that calls for an immediate reduction. There's 2 different protocols for the depot insulins. Start low, go slow or tight regulation. With tight regulation, you raise the dose more often but it requires more testing, too.
