I got some nice blue numbers again. Last time I got a bounce in the morning so I had a high preshot.

I wanted to be prepared for a lower preshot that happens in the morning right before work in case I

get a preshoot of 200 or lower without data ? Do you skip dose? Can you give a reduced or token dose? Currently I give 1.75?

Do you test again in 30 minutes to see if it rising? I did that with ProZinc a few times and then gave a reduced dose and tested.

hi catherine,

it's late so i'm not going to post too much, but didn't want to leave you without a response.

here's your post from yesterday - we link them to help us be able to track what advice people are getting!

here's the link with info on what to do if you're faced with a low preshot - low being a relative number. Always we consider if we will be home to monitor and are prepared to pull up low numbers if needed, we consider our own experience with our cat, how well we have learned how our cat responds to insulin and what our cat's typical curve might look like. so a new person still learning has a higher no-shoot number than someone who's learned more about their cat. an experienced person might shoot less than 100 because that is often a way to flatten out a curve. don't do this before you are ready, however.

Shooting and Handling Low Numbers

When you are testing and faced with a number that you aren't sure what to do with, you can always post and people with experience will help you make a decision.

thanks for your comments in yesterday's condo about punkin. that was very sweet of you. he was a beloved member of our family and i can't express how much i miss him. yes, he was a human cat.

With your current data, you can see that he isn't going particularly low mid-day.
Since you are testing, you may set your no shot limit to 150 (which you're nowhere near, at present), and check around the nadir time to see how low he goes.

Review the Lantus protocol and take a look at some long timer's cat's spreadsheets. Some folks are shooting low to stay low; you're working your way to doing that by following the protocol. You're aiming for a dose which doesn't take him lower than 50 mg/dL at nadir and otherwise keeps him in as low as possible numbers to help the pancreas heal.

Re: No Shoot Number? Reduced Dose for beginning lantus users

Thanks for the information and tips. I am getting a little bettter understanding of how Lantus works. I see that many people shoot very low numbers. Many of the members do so much testing though so they have a good idea of where the cat is going and do a lot of retests when numbers are low. I don't think Lovey would go for testing every 15- 30 minutes yet? until I get a little better at the ear testing. Yes, my preshots are no where near that level at this point. But when I saw some lower midcycle numbers, I thought I might get a lower preshot if I didn't get a bounce.
