NO Guar Gums!

My guy Joe, diabetic and early CKD needs low carb and low phosphate food. I was thrilled to find Weruva and bought him so much. I transitioned him over using the mix the new with the old method and he started to have diarrhea. It has been bad diarrhea and it is chronic. He has been to the vet about it and he has had two treatments with different meds. No help.
My research suggests he might be allergic to Guar Gums.
I am looking for good food, low carb and low phosphate that does not have it.
Any suggestions?

Several of the Tiki Cat varieties have no gums (I believe all of the luau kinds do not have any), not sure what the phosphorous content is though so you’d have to check on each kind individually. If you look through the website and click on different kinds they will specifically say “no gums” on the description.

ZiwiPeak does not contain gums or carrageenan. I have no idea about the phosphorous levels. You'll need to check on Dr. Lisa's food chart for that information.

I went through the same thing with my Sebastian when he was a kitten and it took me months of food eliminations and a few vet trips to settle on the gums causing his chronic diarrhea. Most Tiki cat foods (the ones with broth) don't have any gums, but some of the othe Tiki varieties do, so you have to check the labels. It's very expensive, but Stella and Chewy freeze dried made with water into a wet food is also a gum free option.

My struggle now is that Sebastian was doing really good digestion-wise eating Nature's Variety Instict Rabbit. Those Nature's Variety Instict pates also don't have gums. But the rabbit variety is more mid-carb range and now he has diabetes. So I am transitioning him off the Nature's Variety Instinct to only Stella and Chewy freeze dried and Tiki Cat. It's so expensive though!

I just remembered I have a Tiki mousse, looks like it does not contain guar gum. Temp loves it, and he won’t eat any of the other Tiki mousses.

Good luck. Let’s just say you don’t want him to puke or poop this one. Took multiple rounds of vinegar to get the mackerel smell out of the carpet.

I had to do a ton of research on Weruva’s site recently to get this figured out. Note: these are all just pates as Howie doesn’t have teeth. So there are probably some others that are minced or shredded meat that also might be good too.

Just in case anyone wants to know about Ziwipeak
Most of the regulars are 3-4% carbs. Phosphorus is average about 1.40%
In the Provenance line of Ziwipeak
East Cape is only 1% carbs and 1.68% Phos
East Hauraki is 1% carbs and 1.41% Phos
Otago Valley is 1% carbs and 1.36% Phos
Joe will be trying one of the last two
