Making a new post because I wanted to rewrite what I said before in a way that more reflects my thinking. I also know most of you guys measure bG in mg/dL, so I’ll use that.
Okay, so Lola’s pre-shot values have actually been pretty good for the most part. She averages about 170-190 mg/dL (refer to SS). But when I get midday tests, I’m not seeing any effect - today her AMPS was 187 and her +6 was 196, and yesterday her AMPS was 194 and her +6 was also 194. She’s taking 0.75 units of ProZinc insulin. I know it’s not fur shots or poor absorption because I changed the injection site this morning and double-checked that the needle went into her skin before I injected.
The midday tests have been inconsistent before. For example, on September 8th, her AMPS was 211, and her +6 was 187, which isn’t much of a difference I don’t think. But then the next day, on September 9th, her PMPS was 167 and I got a +3 (before I went to bed) of 110, which I thought was great.
I’m starting to think that maybe I ought to switch to another insulin such as Lantus in hopes of getting better results. What do you guys think? It’s time for me to order insulin next month anyways. I’ll probably try going up to 1 unit first to see if that helps, and I’m going to get my dad to take some +3 values in case she’s having her nadir early. I don’t have time to do a curve until next weekend, but I think I’ll do a curve with 1 unit to see what happens then.
What do you guys think? Also bear in mind that she’s getting dental work on Wednesday, so I’m not sure if the tooth pain/stress is affecting her sugar. She also has a bit of constipation that I’m going to ask the vet about as mentioned in the other post. Thoughts?
