Nikko's blood sugar coming down on its own after cracker-gate

If you remember from my last post (link), Nikko got into a box of crackers Thursday morning. Yesterday I had to lock him in my bedroom when I had guests for dinner....... after he managed to run away with a bun in his mouth at some point. Poor guy was absolutely crushed to not be part of the fun and after hours of crying his sugar was through the roof (maybe partially because of the piece of the bun he ate before I grabbed it). This cat is like having a dog that can climb.

Anyways, we're back in blue today! OTJ continues and I'll celebrate after 15 days.. not 10, as I need to make sure my food hound can recover on his own from the odd incident like this.

Also curious how much you all budget for cat food per month? I am doing all wet for nikko and his sister, figured I'll get her (civvie) on the diet as well. I've been doing B.F.F. lately. Halo Grain Free before then. It's cheaper than food + insulin but still averaging a minimum of $120 on cat food per month.

Delighted to see Nikko is back on the right track! Laughing again about the bun though! What a character you have!:joyful:

I'm in Canada so our prices are all different and our dollar is lower but I know I am definitely spending way more than $120 per month on my 3 felines....rough calculation.... probably in the neighbourhood of $220 CAD for food only (FF Pates and Hounds & Gatos). Comparison is going to very much depend on the food selection. Hounds & Gatos is horribly expensive but my sugar kitty gets what she needs!

Very happy to read this .

Was a bit worried with the 428 04/19 @ +11 am  but I think process is being made. I hope by + 8 cycles after the, hmm, incident. Nikko is back to his great numbers (and remains otj) :bighug:

I'm in Canada too :) my kitties are pretty small and only go through a 5.5oz can each per day. Its so expensive compared to the dry food but if this means they are in better health and especially if this means Nikko is OTJ it's worth it. I just need to budget differently for it!

When my girl was still addicted to kibble I thought her kibble was expensive (about equivalent to the vet prescription offerings).Canned food is definitely pricier and a bigger PIA when feeding 3 kitties and they all want to eat at their own pace! My 2 boys are grazers while sweetpie hoovers hers in so I am constantly picking up and putting down food dishes and playing lunchroom monitor to ensure Menace doesn't pilfer extra even if it is all low carb. I think the boys would starve if I left her to do as she pleases and her waistline would definitely suffer!

Glad to see those numbers coming. Neko used to soar to black when she sampled the forbidden bread products.

As odd as it may sound, I found the raw food diet cheaper. I bought a premix and raw meat and made my own. Cost per meal was less than a can, which was about what I was feeding per day. Raw food is more nutrient rich, so you give a smaller volume. 14 lb Neko got 125 grams a day of raw, compared to a 156 gram can. Smaller civvie gets 100 grams of raw.
