OTJ Trial Nico Day 2 AM- 66/pm-87

Well apparently I got mixed up in the words and jump started it. But looking back after pointed out, I feel secure in the move. My cat is eating the lowest carb food (fresh, shredded meat in its own broth and EZ Complete), I already was feeding him 4x a day before this, so will just continue to feed the 6, and he has shown over the previous week, an inability to tolerate even a little bit of injected insulin. So! Tally ho!
He hasn't had any giant pee balls in a good week, not spending extra time at the water bowl, and the funny thing I pointed out a few days ago, is I believe his body decided... I'm all better now!
He started eating Fancy Feast pates when he was high BG. I was so upset because I do not have faith in mass marketed pet food and I know it has all sorts of bad things I don't want him eating. But, a few days ago he decided he no longer wants the FF. I brought it out like usual, and he just looked at me funny. So I ran to get him some shredded pork tenderloin with his mix and he started chowing down. The FF has a lot more carbs in it than his fresh meat, so it's like he knew he needed to eat that for the time. So his body knows he is SO done with this. I know I could be jumping the gun, but all the signs are there.
If it turns out he starts climbing up? We'll work with it. But it doesn't seem like it. So thank you very much, we both need all the encouragement over the next two weeks. Happy Monday!

Happy to see this update!! It looks like our boys were diagnosed about the same time. I was wondering if you can tell me more about how you’re doing his food? How much of the meat and supplement are you doing?

Certainly! I know raw is supposed to be best, but he never wanted that. SO! We tried cooking. I first tried boiling the chicken, but it was a lot of extra work, and I know he likes my baked chicken. I weigh it ahead of time so I have an idea of what I need, plus if you use a meal completer such as EZ Complete or Alnutrin, I believe it's all based on raw weight.
I cut it up, weigh in, and bag in daily batches to go in the freezer until needed. Then I bake usually three days at a time, and add quite a bit of water to it. That's so it doesn't dry out, lets all the nutrients drain out into the water so I don't lose it all, and then I have a great broth to go along with the meat at mealtime. He loves it. When it cools, I shred it by hand because that's what my 2 boys like.
As for how much? When he was 'starving' with the diabetes going strong, he was eating about 6oz raw weight/4oz cooked weight per day that I just separated into 6 meals per day. Now that he's not starving and his system seems to be working right? He's actually only eating between 3-3.2oz cooked food a day total. I bought a kitchen weight scale to do all this. They don't have to cost much, and I got it at Walmart just for this.
There's Alnutrin, but you have to add liver to your food. I use EZ Complete. You add 1 scoop per 1oz cooked I think it is? Best part about that company, is the people that run it. Laurie writes back to any questions, and she's an immense wealth of knowledge no matter what ailment your cat is going through. It was thanks to her and all this research and info she shared with me, that saved my last kidney cat. I did what she told me to, and he was the only of 4 kidney cats I've had that had his failure turn around! It's a great company with amazing people.:)
But that's all I do. I cook chicken and pork tenderloin like that. And beef I just toss in a pan to cook because while Nico won't eat it, Oliver likes the ground style and I switch them up for variety. I just weigh the amount of food per meal, add the broth, add the EZC to it. It works great and I know I'm giving them the best I can.
If I messed up any of that or you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I don't get out much and babble a lot.:D

I'm so not looking forward to his vet tomorrow.🤣
Due to me getting very bad advice from another board years ago (Tanya's), my vet hates groups or people in general online giving out medical advice.😒
The last she knew, he was on Glargine 2units twice a day. Now when she asks, I get to explain how we're testing to see if he's in remission.
I'm taking 2 cats in for testing tomorrow. This'll be fun!

Best of luck with the vet! Seems like it would be a bit odd for any responsible vet to argue with your current approach given how completely intolerant he's been of insulin recently. Maybe try downplaying the participation/existence of the board entirely?

Just show her the sheet; she can't argue with the numbers.
And for the record, my sheet FREAKS OUT some of the vets I see. Jude's regular vet is completely on board with my testing, but on one of the last times I took Jude to the walk-in clinic, I showed the vet my sheet, and she said, "NOBODY does this." :cat:

Thanks! I'll have my sheet with me there, so I can definitely show her. She just won't like Ilike Ied out from hfr advice, to follow people without protest training. ;)

Maybe print out the research paper describing the TR protocol - it is a published paper, link in the dosing methods sticky. I gave that and copies of the spreadsheet to my vet. Neko's internal medicine vet really liked the spreadsheet as a tool.

You could also do a side by side with the Relion and PetTest tomorrow morning, in case your vet doesn't believe the human meter numbers.

Good luck with the vet appointment. It's hard to argue with good results.

Oh yeah! I'll do that with the paper. She does like to see 'official' research. 🤣
Thanks!
