He got his juice this morning at 9:20, and hour passed normal 8:20 time due to my waiting for reply about dosage. so now I want to do =6 at 3pm. However, he knows that around 2pm he would get fed after poke, so what do I do? Hold him off eating til 3 or give him something. Food will affect numbers and I want to get true as possible reading.

easy just poke at +5 and feed the starving boy there is no hard and fast rule that says it must be +6 All tests are valuable data.

Ok good!
He is acting good, went up to back room bed to look from up high onto backyard, and then he came down at 2 - came down stairs fast pace, so I think - well I hope - the 4u made him feel better. Am disappointed I cannot go to 3 or 2.5, like everyone else. But how he feels at each u is what counts. At least I got him down from vets suggested 5u. I will poke and then feed him.

OK he is 495. (he squirmed & put paw up to brush ear when first poke had no blood, so could affect #) Not great, but at least he is outta the black, so 4u seems it for now.

Lantus doesn't work immediately like Humulin that you're use to it takes 3-5 days for the shed to readjusted. Think of it like adding bath salts to a tub of water. When you first pour them in a few melt right away but most sink to the bottom of the tub. The the longer they are in the water the more they dissolve. Those ones on the bottom of the tub are like his shed. They aren't available to him right away to lower his blood sugar. But as you keep the dose steady those become available to lower his blood sugar and are replaced by the new dose given. So it becomes a cycle of one dose in reserve waiting to be used and the older dose being used.

So with the dose increase this morning he won't be using it until tonight and then only part of that today he is still running off the 2.5 you gave last night.
