I wanted to update everyone on my search for a new vet. I received a voicemail from the other vet we have in town. The receptionist told me the vet wanted to meet with me to discuss my concerns regarding my fur babies. I went today and she totally agreed with everything!! Wet canned (doesn't matter what brand) low carb diet, home testing, diagnosing with clinical signs with the hone BG readings, AND she loved the spreadsheet!! I am so relieved that I have found a vet that has an open mind! And to top if off, the vet tech that used to work at my previous vet is at this one and she's a dream!!! And the best news is after she looked at the spreadsheets she said she didn't think they were diabetic (remission)

It sounds as though you've found a keeper of a vet there! I'm delighted for you that you've found someone you can work with...and to find the tech you really like there too is a real bonus! :)

I would agree, given that you're using an Alphatrak that the numbers you're getting without insulin are really very good. Since you've taken Woody off the insulin too, it looks as though all those higher numbers he was getting were down to bouncing from going low - he hasn't given you any high numbers since the morning after his last shot! :) I don't know for sure exactly what the upper limit is for normal range on an Alphatrak, but the numbers look good to me. :) I will say that, as with all of us with OTJ cats, staying vigilant with their diet and testing regularly (though not every day) is still important. But other than that, it's time to enjoy not being tied to shot times now. :D

Buzz is looking FANTASTIC....and although I'd keep a close eye on Woody, he's definitely looking a LOT better than he was!!

You might try something with Woody....test and then feed....and test again about 3 hours later.....if the number is lower, then we know his pancreas is doing something!!

Those are pretty much normal numbers on the AlphaTrak!!

I am so very thankful you found us....especially considering the crazy amounts of insulin Woody was getting! The high carb food was probably the only thing keeping him alive

How truly wonderful that you found a vet that seems to know what they're talking about too! That makes it so much easier!!

Vigilant is exactly what I'm going to do! They are thinking I am spoiling them. Eating canned food 4times a day! (1.4 oz per feeding though)

I am trying to get my son to get their kitties onto canned so they don't develop health problems in the future, but so far no luck.

I am SOOO thankful I found you! Both my cats are acting normal again! And i will test Woody +3. The best thing the vet said was at the end of my conversation when she told me that she wasn't afraid to refer me to another vet if she felt she didn't know what was going on!

So happy that you were able to find a vet close to home. Sounds like a real gem! Also glad to hear the boys are doing so well! Good work Momma Bean!:D

Thank you MrworfMens Mom for all your input and help. My kitties wouldn't be where they are if you wouldn't have stepped in and helped me figure out what was going on. Thank you very much for helping me find my way. I've learned so much from you guys. I think I'll hang around because I have more to learn and FDMB has a piece of my heart!

Awesome news.

What are your son's objections to moving to wet only? If we know maybe we can give you some arguments for your side of the debate as far as how it's practical and it doesn't have to be expensive with examples.
