Hi Everyone
My 7 year old cat was just diagnosed with diabetes. All organs and other functions are looking good according to vet's bloodwork so we we started treatment at home (my cat gets super stressed at vets so I am doing all the daily monitoring at home myself).
We started tonight with 1 unit of Lantus 100
At 7pm his reading was 23.8. We fed him new diabetic food. Injected him with 1 unit.
3 hours later he measured 24.8
Tomorrow at 7am should I give him 1.5 units?
He has lost 25% of his weight in a 4.5 months (he was obese to start with but still). I want to get him stabilized ASAP.
I feel like every day he is outside that proper range he is slowly starving.
I don't want to stick to 1 unit for a week like my vet said at today's meeting if it isn't getting him where he needs to be. I am aware of the risks about avoiding hypoglycemia...is increasing dose to 1.5 units appropriate this early?
I am sure I injected him properly tonight. Thanks everyone.
