Newly Diagnosed Burmese Cat in NZ

Hi our nearly 13 year old cat has just been diagnosed as diabetic. We go to the vet tomorrow to learn howto inject him twice a day with lantus (I think). My question is about wet food. Can anyone in NZ please tell me which brands of food are low in carbs? I've joined the feline diabetes Facebook page and a lady recommended I ask on this forum as the ingredients may be different in different counties (I hadn't even thought that could be the case) So much to learn! Thanks in advance.

Hi I don't know. From what I've read so far it sounds like the way to go. We have the appointment with the vet to get everything set up tomorrow afternoon so I'll ask about home testing too. If I could control his diabetes with insulin I'd be thrilled!

I would gather as much info as you can from here to take to the vet with you. Home testing is essential in trying to manage diabetes from home.

Hi Jo, welcome from across the ditch Your boy is just gorgeous, and you're definitely in the right place to learn to give him to best possible chance at regulation or even remission!

I'm almost finished compiling a list of wet foods available in Australia (still waiting on the Fancy Feast data... must go poke them). I'm guessing our available brands would be quite similar as we're right next door. Can you get any of these brands in EnZed:

BFF (Best Feline Friend or something)
Weruva Cats in the Kitchen
Pro Plan
Wellness (a few different varieties of this brand)
ZiwiPeak
Whiskas

Then for the brands you can get I can give you a list of flavours and what carbs they have. I also feed my Ivana (who has diabetes and also kidney disease) human tuna in springwater and human red salmon in springwater, they both have zero carbs and are also low in phosphorous as well (must be red salmon though, not pink salmon, as pink has too much phosphorous).

I'm not in NZ , out of the list Tara posted above, I use Ziwipeak. I would think it would less expensive than it is over here in the States.

Do you two think you can lobby them for more flavors????? Lol. Anyway my babes (well 1) likes it.
