Hi. My 12-yr-old male cat, Blackie, was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. He's tolerating his insuline very well, but is still having litter box issues and runs and hides from me and my husband from time to time. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with their cat? He's only been on his insulin shots and special diet since Monday night. Thank you!

What kind of insulin? How much? How often?

What kind of "special diet"? What are you feeding him?

Are you hometesting his blood glucose numbers?

We have seen this type of behavior from newly diagnosed cats before. What are you trying to do when he runs and hides from you? If it's when you try to give him insulin, I highly recommend learning to test his blood glucose yourselves with a human glucometer so that you know if it's safe to give insulin. He could be associating your actions with making him feel bad.

We can help further if we learn the answers to Ry's questions. Some cats just don't like disruptions to their routine, so he could be reacting only to that.
