Hi all! We're new to the cat diabetes game...
R. received his diabetes RX on 6/25 and had his first PM shot of 1U Lantus on 6/27. We're now on the 4th full day, and since we have noticed no change in pinks, we've upped the dose to 1.5U BID. I'm posting in the Lantus forum.
Thanks to FDMB for all of the awesome advice (and sticky posts) throughout the forums. Being data geeks, we really appreciated the recommended 2013 Roomp & Rand study "Management of Diabetic Cats with Long-acting Insulin". It references the Diabetes-Katzen insulin ruler sheet, which looks really useful for dose precision. And a glargine/detemir dosing protocol using human glucometer measures can be found in Table 2. This article seems to match up pretty closely with the advice found on the forum.
Anyway, that's what we've learned so far. We're really hoping we can get R. on a dose that moves his numbers in the right direction.
