Newbie question - sickness increases blood sugar?

My cat was diagnosed with feline diabetes about 4 weeks ago. Her blood sugar was tested around 10 days in, the dosage seemed perfect.

When brushing her, I've noticed some scabs near her tail, like dermatitis. She doesn't have fleas & is an indoor cat. I thought, I'll give it a couple of days to see if it passes.

In the last 2 days, she's now also had diarrhoea & today she's been a little more lethargic than she's recently been. I bought a glucose reader (alphatrak) & used it promptly today as I've been a little worried about her... her glucose is 19.9 and I gave her insulin just a couple of hours ago.

Do you think her feeling unwell with diarrhoea and itchy skin could cause enough stress to increase her glucose?

I'm still very early on into Milly's diabetes journey - any help and advice appreciated.

Hi and welcome to you and Milly. In order to advise you better could you create a signature so that Milly's information is available whenever you post?

Setting up your signature (light grey text under a post). Here's how:
click on your name in the upper right corner of this page
click on "signature" in the menu that drops down
type the following in the box that opens: kitty's name/age/date of diabetes diagnosis/insulin you're using and dosage amount /glucose meter you're using/what (s)he eats/any other meds or health issues (s)he has. You can add your name, and a geographic location (sometimes the country/time zone matters) Be sure to SAVE when you are finished.

Since you are testing her blood sugar the data you have for insulin dose and the BG (blood glucose) testing recorded on our spreadsheet would be doubly helpful.

It takes a little longer to set up, but it's invaluable to see that information in that format. You will see how the trends and patterns emerge, and members can review his/her progress before offering suggestions or advice:

There are reasons why Milly might be having skin problems and the loose stool, particularly if you have just changed her diet with the diabetes diagnosis. Diet is one of the three main components of effective diabetic treatment, along with insulin therapy and testing the blood sugar, just like with humans.
