My boy is currently (and very temporarily) on Hill's W/D wet and kibble for food. In addition to the very newly diagnosed diabetes, Lars is also in stage II renal failure. He's a fusspot when it comes to wet food, prefers smooth pates' over chunky styles, and is a tremendous kibble addict, which is a habit I now know we'll have to break with him.

I do know about Dr. Lisa's food listing and have been going over and over it, but was wondering what real people have had the best luck feeding their own sugar babies with off that list, particularly those who have to keep things both low carb as well as low phosphorous.

I welcome any input from any of you guys! Thanks ever so much in advance for any and all assistance! :)

I use Wellness Turkey Grain Free. It is 4 carbs and 200 Phos. I tried Evo but the cats didn't like that as much.

I want to chime in here. My boy is also on Hill's WB (but only dry...the vet didn't give wet one). When he comes home, I want to switch to either BFF, Evo, or Tiki Cat. He has had the Evo before and enjoyed it. I think he just loves meat more than fish. Someone mentioned to me that BFF and Tiki cat flavours are mostly fish, so it sounded like I should be careful feeding it due to the mercury content? I didn't quite follow. Are both of these foods okay to give?

Squeaker is also in renal failure. I typically feed Little Friskies Classic Pate with phosphorus binder added and Weruva Steak Frites and Peking Ducken. The Weruva foods are a little pricey but the Steak Frites are very low in phosphorus. Feed the lowest phosphorus that you can but even if you have to go with a higher phosphorus food you can add phosphorus binder to lessen the amount of phosphorus absorbed.

I've got a small container of Epikitin phosphorous binder due to arrive on Thursday from Amazon, which will open up some more food choices for my b0y; that is, if he'll not notice the powder mixed into the food. If he notices the Epikitin mixed in, I'm 99 percent sure he'll reject the food outright, finicky little turkey! I went out yesterday with my written cheat sheets from Dr. Lisa's and Tanya's CRF sites and bought a bunch of different brands/flavors/varieties of wet food to try with Lars. There's bound to be something out there that he'll willingly eat, LOL. He tends to prefer smooth fishy flavors over chunky poultry or meaty flavors, which isn't the best place to start, but we shall see. ;) Thanks, everyone for all the good information!
