2 weeks and still hanging in there....

Tomorrow is a follow-up blood test for fP(something - I don't have the latest vet sheet), but Revson was DKA 2 weeks ago.
I pick up Rev on Thurs from my ex-husband and move us both to a new apartment.
I have ordered the Newbie kit and I have the ketone/glucose strips on hand.
Low carb wet food that he likes. Karo purchased for emergencies.
He's got a large dog crate for a safe place to hang out (can come and go as he pleases).

What else?

Good list! Here's what I'd add:
  • I'd get a stash of high carb, gravy-type food (e.g., Fancy Feast marinated or grilled varieties).
  • Bookmark videos/YouTube on how to test for blood glucose.
  • Print out the sticky notes at the top of the board -- especially the Tight Regulation Protocol and the how to manage low preshots and numbers.
  • Set up your Spreadsheet and Profile.
The test is probably an fPLI -- feline pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity -- it's the most reliable test for pancreatitis.

I haven't a clue how many strips will come with your newbie kit. Once you know what kind of meter you have, order strips. Amazon, Ebay, ADW, or Hocks are among the places that have the best prices on strips.

A hypo toolbox: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2354 There are a few other things besides high carb gravy foods and Karo to keep on hand for a hypo.

It's reliable but not 100% accurate. Squishy's fPLI test came back negative while he was in the ER. The necropsy showed that he did have it, among other non-FD related things that lead to his sudden decline in health and eventual passing.

hi amy & revson - just want to say welcome again too!

when you've read enough that your brain wants to explode, ask questions and we'll do our best to teach you how to help mr revson!

Hi Amy! Welcome aboard! I'm still new here myslef and wanted to say you'll be amazed at how much you learn how quickly. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed (easier said than done!) You've found a wonderful group of knowledgeable, caring people here. You're in good hands.

I also keep a syringe (no needle) in my hypo kit - just incase I need to syringe honey, karo etc into her mouth.

Also - once you get set up a bit you might consider stashing a package of syringes, 20 strips and some lancets. OH and an extra battery for your meter! I keep mine in our pantry so that in the event Mommy misplaces her brain and doesn't order strips etc. we have enough to get through a week of waiting on a shipment!

Thanks for all of the good advice.

I'm headed to the store now and will pick up Revson tonight.
Gotta admit I'm a bit scared of screwing up the shot.
