newbie contemplating meters

Need advice ... researching meters since we already have 3 different models of OneTouch Ultra (original, 2, and Smart) plus one of Freestyle Lite; since test strips are seriously out of date (2004 !), considering buying a ReliOn instead, or an Advocate PetTest -- limited budget, just switched Catcat from NutroMax and Kirkland brand dry kibble to wet food (he loves it) .. vet supplied several cans of Purina DM, but I'm thinking I'd rather go with Fancy Feast pates/Wellness/Blue Wilderness (the ones I found locally with high protein/low carb) ... you know the symptoms: drinking like a camel after journey, dribbling urine as he walks and letting go where we do NOT want him to (adult son's bed !), with caved-in flanks and a backbone which threatens to erupt through his skin (we just got back from an extended trip, obviously something happened while we were gone)

If you want to save as much as possible, go with the Relion Prime from WalMart. You just can't beat $9 for 50 strips.

All our dosing protocols were developed using human meters, so we're very comfortable with them.

I got a Relion Premier Voice , it was only $15 and the strips are the same price as the prime, my store didn't have any Primes at the time so I started with a premier Compact cause it came with strips and a lancet device (which I don't use) but I like the Voice a LOT more.

It has some cool features, it talks to ya, lol,, it tracks averages for different time periods, there is an app but I don't use it so don't know anything about that.

I like that she tells me what his result is as I'm putting the cotton ball pressure on his ear to stop the bleeding because the suspense kills me lol I like being able to focus on him so he can be done and still getting to know the result right away lol.

I'm not sure how it compares to other meters other than the Premier Compact but it feels like a decent one and it read 110 in the vets office yesterday and her alphatrack pet meter read 123, so it seems like its within the range you'd want it to be for a human meter.

cat breeder speak - LOL - ordinary American-English translation: orange tabby-striped cat with "bullseye" marking on sides, wider stripes than the "mackerel" type tabby, looks like your standard DSH (domestic shorthair) but has oval paws and that raucous meow so characteristic of Siamese/Oriental types

I totally understood it!!….China was a pure white DSH, but when she opened her mouth, there was no denying that somewhere in her history, there was a Siamese!!
 
Low budget operation here, very happy with relion prime at $10.00, strips also reasonable. All the human ones have to be up to federal gov't standards re precision, so I wouldn't worry about this less expensive one being lower quality. M'row's monitor stands up well to falling on my hard floor. I got a second one for his hypo box, and the two monitors give near-identical results. Every now and then I repeat a reading, and the results are near-identical. For us, no point in spending more. In thinking about this, it's also important to consider the cost of the strips as these are a long-term expense. Again, ReLion Prime strips meet the mark.
