Charlie, about 14 yrs old (rescue so age is approx), diabetic 3 yrs and in remission 1 year. He was on only 0.5 units bid one year prior to going off insulin entirely. Remission achieved based on diet info found https://catinfo.org/feline-diabetes/ (and that’s also how I found this forum).

What triggers cat to come out of remission? No changes to his diet, environment etc, but we recently noticed increased hunger, urine output and lethargy. Curve test ranged 349-404 using AlphaTrak 2 and vet put him back to 1 unit ProZinc bid. Spot check glucose 2 weeks later @ his normal lowest point was 330 with no improvement in symptoms. Vet increased insulin to 1.5 units bid.

Thank you for hosting this forum! Info, advice and/or direction appreciated.

The one thing we routinely find that drops a cat out of remission is a dental issue -- typically gingivitis (i.e., your cat has some inflammation of the gums and needs his teeth cleaned). It sounds like you went to the vet. Did the vet run a set of labs? If there was any kind of infection or inflammation brewing, it could raise numbers.
