Posted this at end end of other thread but maybe better to start new one bc different question?

So I'm off today but not tomorrow, Is it still safe to start her on insulin today since I can't do the +4, +6, +8, etc. (but only the +2) tomorrow?? Or better Thurs. when I'll have 2 consecutive days off??

No need to start a new thread with each question.
As long as there are no ketones in the urine you could wait til Thursday or you could start Wednesday pm dose.

Don't know much about keto. Asked vet & she said "typically we see signs & then run the blood work. I expect the blood work to be normal in a stable diabetic cat. Clinical signs include severe lethargy & vomiting". Am i supposed to buy those keto urine strips & test her every so often or something? Unfortunately I couldn't even get a urine sample from her to test for a UTI recently so I gave up because I can never catch her at the litterbox before she's done & can't leave out 1 litterbox with those crystal sprinkles to get a sample when I have multiple cats. Sigh

Will do, thanks. Forgive If dumb question, but: So does anyone know that since hypo doesn't always exhibit symptoms, by observing her after shooting: am I just looking out for low numbers every 2 hours ?

Anjee, you don’t need to test her every 2 hours if you’re not doing a curve, which you don’t have to do today. Remember we said 7 days after starting on insulin. You can test around +4,+5, or +6. The keyword here being OR not and. Then you want a +2 tonight after the evening shot. Look at what Bron and I said in yesterday’s thread. I think by creating a different thread with a different question every day you’re getting confused because you don’t know where to look for our answers.

So do I just add a new question to a current thread even if the title is unrelated?
And I can't find yesterday's thread you're referring to, although I searched. I know what a curve is because I was doing those every 2 weeks by vet orders before I found FDMB , but I'd read from Diane Tyler's Mom to do a +2,+4,&+6 after both AMPS & PMPS, then the next day: do a +3,+5,&+7 both cycles. I assumed she was talking about on my days off since you had said to test at least 4x a day when I had to work. Was she talking about the curves? Because I was told by vet (before starting insulin) just to test when I wake up ( never mentioned if before or after food) & every 2h until I reached 12h. So maybe that's where the confusion is from? I hope so because I was wondering how my cat was gonna let me do this 4x in the AM & 4x in the PM when I was off since she's already getting annoyed plus I hated to think of having to put her through that. And also that's why I was asking advice on here this morn whether I should wait until Thurs. to start insulin when I'm off again (instead of this morn because even though I'm off today: I work tomorrow) since I'm off Fri. (i.e., 2 days in a row) because I thought I needed to observe her all day & test her +2,+4,+6 & esp. when she's first starting the insulin.

Please clarify because Im not sure boss will let me off tomorrow anyway, so I'm worried abt that too. Thanks again.

Yes I was talking about the days you have off
Don't know what time you get home from work , you can still get a test in @+8 , +9 or +10 after you get home from work.
A lot of people set an alarm at night to get a +6
Did you ever get back to @Bandit's Mom to set up your spreadsheet.

Edit
Once you have it set up and start entering Celia's BG numbers you can post everyday , in your Title it would be
Date Celia AMPS # and any additional tests you do after that, you can put your PMPS # there also any any additional tests after that.
To add the tests look to the right you will see the word Thread Tools click on that then click in Edit Title and your tests and then click save.

Then the next day you can start another thread with the next Date
To find your other posts tap on your picture ,then tap on Profile Page and then tap on Postings, all your past post will come up.
So let's say if you were to post on 5-11 and then wanted to find your post from 5-10 you will see it .
You can then copy and paste that previous days post and link it to your new post
Your posts are all the way up top , above that pic of that cat on the left hand side in that long line , all the way up top. That's what you will copy and paste to your new thread for the day so members can tap in it or you can tap in it if you need to read something again

You need to put aside what your vet said because it will most likely not match the advice we are giving you since vets know very little about feline diabetes and again, it will just confuse you.

I know you know what a curve is, the question is when you need to do it and since Lantus takes a few days to build its depot, you only need to do it after 7 days.

follow what Bron and I said yesterday for the days you’re working and can’t test as often.

do you understand that the +2,+4,+6 refers to the time of day not the amount of tests? In the spreadsheet, you’ll see those numbers which means you’re testing 2 hours after the shot or +2, four hours after the shot or +4, etc
