I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks, learning everything I can while giving diet a chance to help my newly diagnosed cat, Papaya. The information from everyone is so helpful! I was able to start testing her blood sugar myself - and it wasn't easy at first to get that drop of blood from the ear, but again there is so much help offered here that I didn't give up. Plus when I realized she will have to go on insulin, I had the information I needed to ask my vet intelligent questions. The vet I had initially gone to, besides being extremely expensive, uses Caninsulin and got very defensive when I asked about it. So I actually found another vet who immediately suggested Lantus and the upside is that the new vet is much closer to my house and cheaper. If the FDMB wasn't here, I don't know if I would have even gone ahead with treatment as it certainly would have sunk me financially if I just blindly followed what the first vet was saying. You really gave me what I needed, thanks everyone! Papaya goes to the new vet tomorrow to get started on Lantus, so I'm sure I'll have a lot more to learn in the coming days!
