New to the forum - need dosing advice

Hi all i have been led her from a feline diabetic support group on facebook. Suki and i have been up and down dosing wise on various advice as i am still learning to read her numbers. We are currently at 1.5u lantus but this was too lpw last time we curved at this dose. We worked our way up to 2.5u but group felt Suki began bouncing so we took it back down to 1.25u and now at 1.5u. One dose we havent tried is 1.75u so i am trying her on this dose starting at PM shot. Does anyone have any thoughts on dosage? Link to spreadsheet-

Hello and welcome. I am glad you increased. I don’t see where Suki has gone low at all on Lantus. Please read all the yellow starred Sticky Notes on the top of this forum. Of special interest is the one on dosing methods. Picking one of the ones we use here will help us help you get Suki into better blood sugar numbers. I rather suspect she will need to go above 2.0 units. Turn let’s start first with 1.75 units and see how low it takes her.

Which insulin were you using prior to Lantus? Any other medical issues at the time of diagnosis?
 
Thank you for your reply i have been taking advice from a different group and they were concerned at the large drops at AM pre shot tests when the 2.5u dose depot was full. I panicked both times and gave a reduced dose as i am not at home during the weekday to test and i am scared of her going into a hypo when i am not here. The group felt the large drops into the blue at 2.5u was her bouncing and she was getting too much insulin. We were on caninuslin at first but again on advice of group i managed to get a prescription for lantus. She has a chronic nose infection and the vet believes the diabetes was caused by her being on long term steroids to manage the inflammation in her nose. Its currently managed with loxicom and twice daily steroid nose drops which are helping immensely. I cant seem to understand how to read her numbers and do tend to panic when i see an unexpected low number. I went to 1.75 tonight so i can try a curve at the weekend and see how she gets on?
 
Blue numbers are perfectly safe. We take action (ie. give higher carbs) when they go below 50 on the human meter. Large drops can cause bouncing, they are not the result of bouncing. Bouncing is a perfectly normal mechanism in cats, and does not mean the dose is too high. A curve on the weekend is a good plan.

Do you have an automated feeder? That can really help if you are away during the day. It's food that helps keep them safe.
 
I just panic about giving the full dose. I free feed to be honest. There is food put out in the morning so she can always nibble when she wants. I have 10 cats so there are plenry of bowls with food. Guaranteed it is never all gone by the time i get home

When you say 'free feeding' - are you leaving wet or dry food out for your kitties? When you can, you may want to add your feeding regime to your signature. Hello thank you yes its wet food. There is some out all day. I tend to refill the bowls as needed so they are rarely fully empty :) Suki doesnt like kibble luckily as there is a bowl down for my other cats but she has never eaten that. She was a gravy girl and has had to transition to jelly :)
