Greetings - I'm new to the board, with a 14 year old female cat named Lina who this week was diagnosed as diabetic with blood sugar levels over 400. Her overall health is good.

- Heading back to the vet tonight with husband and kitty for a lesson in injecting insulin.
- Spent 30 minutes in the cat food aisle last night with Dr. Lisa's food chart on my phone screen, weighing the pros and cons of Wellness vs. Friskies pate. Went with Friskies for now.

Looking forward to having utilizing this board for support and advice, thank you!

Welcome Maribeth,

Looks like you are on the right track of things. Its a great thing you started with Dr Lisa`s food list.

Hi Maribeth and sugarprincess Lina and welcome to the message board.

Does Lina like the Friskies pates? They are a nice low carb inexpensive choice and good for our diabetic kitties.

What insulin are you getting? Hopefully, Lantus, Levimir or Prozinc as those are the only ones that work well for cats.

Please let us know how things get on and what questions you have.

My best advice? Breathe, remember to breathe.

This diagnosis of diabetes is scary and there is plenty to learn but we will help you all along the way.

Will you be home testing? It's the best way to keep your kitty safe and many people have learned how to over the internet. An inexpensive human glucometer like the Relion Confirm or Micro from Wal-Mart are a good choice because of the low cost of the test strips.
