Hi everyone! I've been reading the boards for a couple of weeks before introducing myself and my sugar kitty. HIs name is Cream Puff, but we call him Fluff. He's about 9 years old and was diagnosed as diabetic earlier this year after losing a lot of weight. We had him on a weight loss food (first mistake) and also worked to get him more active. He lost about 4 or 5 pounds over the course of a year, but kept losing very quickly until he was 10 pounds, almost half of his original weight.
The vet prescribed food of course, and we had him on an increasing dose of prozinc. I joined the FB group for this site, and learned that I should ditch the prescription food and go to wet. Since that transition, he's been OTJ for just over a month! I actually surprised my vet when I brought him in for his fructosamine test. I lied and told him he was on the same dose of insulin, so when she saw his numbers were normal for the first time and why, she was SHOCKED. I think I converted her to try the wet food diet for future sugar kitties!
He's about 13 pounds now and eating Fancy Feast pate's (with an occasional Friskies or 9 lives pate thrown in). I did have one question.. I bought some Freshpet Select roasted meals (the moist one in a bag), but couldn't confirm the carb percentage? Does anyone know if it's under 10%?
