Hello, Forum Community. We've been reading the board for a few weeks and are looking forward to joining in. Our two cats. Clare and Coral, live with Don and me. Clare was diagnosed as diabetic on June 11th of this year. She's an 11-year-old shorthair tortie. Her Buddy Coral is a 4-year-old shorthair orange and white tabby.

I'll figure out how to add our profile and signature next. This is such a big learning curve for all if us; I'm so glad you're here.

Hello, and welcome to FDMB!

A diagnosis of feline diabetes can be a bit of a shock at first. And acting on that diagnosis can sometimes be a bit of a steep learning curve.
But do please be reassured that feline diabetes is treatable, and it will very soon get easier for you. In fact, treating Clare's diabetes will become 'second nature' to you.

May I ask a few questions:
Is Clare on insulin yet, and if so which insulin and which dose?
And what are you feeding Clare at the moment?

Most of us here test our kitties' blood glucose at home. It helps them enormously (and can save money on vet's bills too). It's not hard to learn and shouldn't hurt your kitty at all (though may take a few goes to get the hang of things). If you'd like to learn we can certainly help you with that.

Please ask any and all questions that you want to. We're here to help.

Welcome aboard!

Eliz

Welcome!

Elizabeth has already given you some great questions. For your signature, you can follow this link for help on setting it up (Step 8). If you're not home-testing yet, you don't have to worry about the spreadsheet portion at the moment, but it's handy to have already up and running when you do start testing. ;-)

Georgette - Welcome! With all the great advice offered here, you will be amazed at what you can learn in a week's time!

Good luck to you and Clare!

A big warm FDMB welcome to beans Georgette and her DH Don and to extra sweet kitty Clare and her civie roomie Coral.

We'd love to see a picture of your diabetic kitty Clare up as an Avatar. Here are directions on shrinking a picture down to size and getting that in your User Control Panel. See the 3rd reply down in this post here.
