After being on Caninsulin we have switched to Prozinc. Sky did really well on caninsulin, so much so that the vet thought she was in remission so we stopped taking it. Within 2 days her numbers went up again and we haven't been able to get them back to a level that I like. What we did realise though was that when she was on Caninsulin she was very subdued (only noticed the difference when it stopped) which is why we are trying Prozinc.

She has been on this for a week now and today was the first curve. To me it's not looking like it's doing a good job! Can someone have a look and see what you think? I'm used to having a real drop and staying low for ages.

She is only on one unit at the moment so I'm expecting to have to increase her dosage. On the positive side, other than her being really sleepy the first few hours after dosing it seems to be suiting her better. Her neuropathy also appears to be reversing as she can run up most of the stairs now so we're getting better that sense!

After being without insulin, it may take awhile to get her back. You have good data from yesterday and she is looking high and flat.. It is good news she is feeling and acting better..

Have you read our Beginner's Guide and Protocol? They are both in my signature in blue. Our usual suggestion is to increase by 0.25 on a cycle you can monitor, hold six cycles and increase again if not enough movement.

Lisa and Smoky recently switched. You might check out their spreadsheet. It took awhile before she started to get good results. (Vetsulin and Canninsulin are the same insulin)

Thanks, will check out Smoky's spreadsheet. Sky only had a couple of days without insulin (we had a period without monitoring) but she just then didn't respond. I do like her numbers being a bit higher than they were - makes injecting her feel safer for me :) I've emailed my results to the vets for their thoughts. I think I want to keep her low for another week and then see where she is.

Getting very frustrated with her numbers. They are getting higher rather than reducing! She had a good drop today but it hasn't held.

Does she need more insulin or less or are her numbers okay - she is only on one unit at the moment?

I haven't tested her for Ketones.

I will chat with the vet tomorrow but this last month has been really hard to get her regulated again - do I persevere with the Prozinc or look at going back to caninsulin as at least she seemed to respond to that.

I would raise the dose as the protocol indicates. Add 0.25 every six cycles if she continues high and flat, raising on a cycle you can monitor. IMHO, I'd try ProZinc as you paid for it. I think your dose is just too low tooo long and she has been sitting there awhile and needs a change to jumpstart again.

I'll up her dose a little and see how she gets on. If I hadn't tested I would think everything was going really well - she is really playful and alert (which is odd for her! lazybones that she is) and has just jumped on the bed which she hasn't done in ages (uses steps that I bought).
