New to Lantus - do I shoot her?

I gave Malika a week break of shots moving from Vetsulin to Lantus. 1st shot this morning of .5U took her from 380 to 264 at 8:00 am. It's time for her second shot, I tested at 7:00 pm and she's at 91. I'm hesitant to give her more in an hour. Suggestions appreciated.
 
Your spreadsheet isn't making much sense. Do you test before each shot?

With Lantus, you Test/Feed/Shoot....all in about 5-10 minutes.

If you're using the AlphaTrak and got a 91 at PMPS, I'd stall, don't feed and test again in 20-30 minutes to see if the number comes up without the influence of food

We'll probably suggest skipping or shooting a smaller dose tonight

I'm not sure what isn't making sense on the spreadsheet. I quit giving her any insulin for a week and started fresh with the Lantus this morning so there's a gap. She was dropping hard on the Vetsulin. I always test / feed / shoot. Guidance on the spreadsheet is appreciated so I can communicate effectively.

The AMPS and PMPS columns are blank....those are where your AM Pre-Shot and PM Pre-Shot test results should go

You always test before feeding/shooting.....On the Pre-Shot tests, you don't want them to eat for 2 hours immediately before so you get a test that's not influenced by food.

So, if you're usual shot time is 7am/7pm, you'd take all food up by 5am/5pm...then Test/Feed/Shoot at 7am/7pm

Then as the day goes on, you enter the "+ cells".....each one corresponds to the number of hours since the last shot......so if your AMPS is a 7am and you test again at 10am (3 hours later), that test number goes into the +3 cell.....if you test again at 1pm, that's 6 hours after the AMPS, so that test number would go in the +6 column......all the way up to +11 and then its time for the PM cycle and you start over.

Looks like you made some changes to your spreadsheet and the PMPS column is totally gone. (Looks like you put times in instead of leaving it how it was) If you look at our spreadsheet, you'll see what I mean.

In the U column, you put the amount you're giving in Units

Make sense?

Yes, I just learned about the U column and entered that today. I didn't make any changes to the spreadsheet - I'm not even sure it will let me, my guess is it's password protected. I used time of day. It's possible I used a non-Lantus version or an older/new version? With that said, before I knew better everything went into the Comments column. Thanks for the education! We're all rookies once as I always say.
 
I have decided not to shoot tonight, based on her previous reactions to Vetsulin.
It's so odd to me. She was ravenously hungry tonight. She's not a big eater so this is unusual and I'm just surprised. I'm trying not to stress over all of this.

I decided not to shoot. She has been eating like crazy. I retested at 9:30 (2.5 since her 91 reading) and she's only at 106. It's been 13.5 hours her .5U of Lantus for the first time. Should I give her a little FF gravy to bring her up? Or let it rise slowly? I won't be able to test her again tonight.
 
without a shot for tonite, she will be okay. You don't need gravy...

You might have to change your dose to 0.25 u ....

you must have recently gone to the low carb wet food.... that is also a factor on her needing less insulin.

She's been on low carb since since mid-January after I found this site and it was recommended. It didn't seem to impact her highs so I started giving the Vetsulin. I baby stepped it.
I'll try and stay up later than normal tonight (my lucky co-workers!! HA!) and test one more time. I've found a 1/2 unit syringe that I plan to purchase, but was prescribed full unit needles so that's what I've got to work with at the moment.. I'll do my best to do a quarter if she's low (relatively) in the morning.

It looks like you changed all the "+" cells to time of day....the one that says 6pm should say "PMPS"

We can make changes to our spreadsheets....once we make the copy for ourselves, we can do what we want....it's not protected.

If you look at our spreadsheet, you'll see along the top that there's a bunch of cells with "+"...like +1, +2, +3....all the way up to +11.....those cells correspond to the number of hours since the last shot.

So if you shoot at 7am, the test you get immediately before you feed/shoot should go in the AMPS column....then the amount goes in the U column.

If (for example) you tested again at 11am, that would be 4 hours since the AMPS, so the test number would go in the +4 cell (if you change it back to the way we have ours)....the actual times don't matter to us....it's the number of hours since the last shot that we look at so unless you really need the times along the top, I'd just change it back to the + numbers like the rest of us have (or add another line with the + cells)
 
I didn't give her a shot last night and she was up to 297 this morning. I'll give her another .5U and test a little more frequently. Thanks for the suggestions.
