I have been using the Lantus Solostar pen. Yesterday I switched to a Lantus cartridge, because it was given to me by a kind member since I don't have the money for insulin. I do not have an opticlick pen to put the cartridge in. Is that ok? Do I need to use something to protect the cartridge from light? Or do I just use it as is?

Also, the pharmacy sold me 30 gauge syringes. I had 31 gauge last time. Is 30 ok to use with the cartridge?

Hi!
Welcome back!

How's Sasha been?
I'm not too sure about the pens, I used the vials (from the cartridge 5 pack) and used the syringes with it. Hopefully others can weigh in on your question.

Good to see u back!

I actually prefer the stand-alone cartridges to the Solostar pen. I think it's easier to draw a dose without bubbles - at least for me that's the case.

I keep the cartridge in a prescription pill vial in my fridge. Not sure it needs to be protected from light, but I like having it in a container as opposed to just loose in the fridge. You don't need to have the cartridge in anything when you're drawing your dose, though.

There shouldn't be a difference in 30 vs 31 gauge in terms of drawing a dose from the cartridge. It's more a matter of whether your cat notices a difference as the 30 gauge is a little bigger than 31. But I've been using 29 gauge, primarily with the Lantus cartridges, for months, and that combination seems to have worked just fine with Quincy.

I put my cartridge in a coffee cup surronded by napkins in the fridge, usually on the second shelve so it doesnt get moved around too much. Light has never bothered my cartridge.
