Hi my name is Merry - My beautiful 11 yo exotic shorthair, Sidney Poitier Fuzzwink, has literally just been diagnosed with diabetes. This is a 2 cat household - his half brother, Casey Theodore Fuzzwink (11yo) also rules the roost. Casey is fine. Today i go back to the vet to learn how to inject the insulin and do home testing. Both of the boys are switching their food - wet only - to high protein, low carb. It's necessary because it is impossible to keep Sidney from eating whatever is put out. Both boys love their treats - I tried dried bonita last night and the 2 of them looked at me with a "You've got to be kidding me - You expect me to eat this?" and walked away. I've looked at the list of low carb treats. Before I wear out a path to the pet food store and spend needless money, can anyone suggest a treat that doesn't smell and has a crunch?
I know what it is like to be battling an illness - I have an auto immune disease. I have been down the road in the past with sub Q fluids for one of my cats and I'm not squeamish about giving the shots or testing. Just hellbent on getting Sidney balanced asap. It is really encouraging to know that this support group exists.
