Hi, my cat is newly diagnosed and although the stress hasn't taken hold of me yet, I am feeling guilty about her obesity the last several years, I was such an oblivious idiot!

Welcome!

Many of us were feeding the wrong thing, so you're not alone. Pop over to Cat Info for great information on feline nutrition.

Tell us a bit about yourself, your cat, what you're feeding, and what insulin (if any) you're giving.

Will it help to know that everyone of us was unaware that dry food was bad, that obesity was an issue for diabetics - or even that cats could be diabetic? I had fed my poor Oliver Science Diet Light (one of the highest carb foods with junk for ingredients) for years in the hopes he would lose weight.

The good news is it is possible to change things. Every cat doesn't go into remission but many do. Oliver was one of the lucky ones. He loved wet low carb food, he lost weight on it and the insulin plus the food made him a diet controlled diabetic.

Let us know how we can help. Every one who replies to your post is paying it forward for help they received when they were scared and overwhelmed.

Welcome to the board, you are in the right place. Don't blame yourself, you weren't to know. But there is a lot you can do now to help him and possible get him into remission. So tell us more about yourself and your kitty, what food, what insulin etc?

Hello, and welcome to FDMB!

Please don't beat yourself up about having fed your cat incorrectly. An awful lot of us here did exactly that until our cats were diagnosed with diabetes. But there's no point in looking back. It's time to look to the future and towards getting your cat back into good health!

Do tell us more about yourself and your cat.

Has s/he started on insulin yet? Which one and what dose?

And what are you feeding your cat at the moment?

welcome, im kinda new here as well so i cant really offer advise, but i can tell you you are in the right place. there is a lot to learn so don' get overwhelmed. we have all been where you are and we are just paying it forward. do not beat yourself up for something you did not know. what does matter is you are here now and we can help and support you.
