Hi,
I am new to the FDMB. Maggie Mae has been on insulin now for 3 weeks. I do have some questions regarding travel procedures in case any one out there has experience with air travel. She is an experienced traveler & does well. However, she has not been an air kitty while on insulin. I know the insulin needs to be refrigerated so how has anyone gotten around this?
Thanks, Lynette & Maggie Mae.

Welcome  You can use an insulated travel case. There are some made specifically for insulin. Here are some: http://www.hocks.com/diabetic-supplies/insulin-cooling-cases.html?limit=alll and http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/catalog/carrying-cases_126.htm Your local pharmacy may sell similar cases. I don't know if you would need to bring a note written by the vet to explain to TSA why you are carrying a case with insulin and insulin syringes. It probably won't hurt to bring one along just in case TSA opens the case to examine the contents and questions you about it.

We'd love to know more about your diabetic cat. Ad you, too, of course  The most typical questions you'll be asked are how was your cat diagosed, what insuiln is your cat on, what is the dose, what food is your cat eating, are you testing blood gluocse levels at home.

Morning Lynette and Maggie Mae-

Not a really big traveler so others will tell you what you need.

Just here to say welcome to FDMB and nice to know you two :-D .

My Sneakers is on ProZinc @ 2.25 (currently), I feed her fancy feast and the raw food diet recipe, and I use the Relion Micro  .

Hi Lynette,
Good to see the two of you here; you may also want to check with airlines for their rules or you may be stuck on the ground.

I know it's travel in another country, but still the story is an example of lousy education of some airport personnel. If people have trouble, try explaining that it's for your cat!

Welcome Lynette, and you, too, extra sweet Maggie Mae.

I'm a winter visitor to AZ also. Enumclaw WA in the summer, and
Yuma November through March.

I'd be happy to help you learn to home-test, or anything like that, if you
are anywhere near those two locations.

Which insulin are you using? Lantus or Levemir which come in pen form are meant to be used at room temperature, although to help them last longer, we always refrigerate them for our feline diabetics. If not exposed to extreme temps, either one would probably be fine for 12 hours at room temps. Most of us have left a pen out on the counter a few times to no adverse effective!

Wanted to drop in and say welcome!
This is the best place you will find for just about everything!
Good luck with the travel questions. I have no advice as my 3 girls do not even like to go to the vet
