First I have to confess that Garbo and I have been lurkers on FDMB for a long time. Here's a little about us:
Back in 2009 Garbo was diagnosed after some litter box problems led us to get her examined. Doc put her on Lantus and away we went. Being the total information nerd that I am, I immediately started researching FD and landed here. What a wonderful resource you are! Here I learned how to do home testing (and started immediately - hey, I love numbers) and how to track her numbers on the spreadsheet (thank you!). Our vet was pleasantly surprised at my eagerness to monitor her at home. We saved money on BG curves by doing them at home and sharing the link with the vet. In less than a year Garbo was off the juice! Fast forward to last month when Garbo started peeing on the floor again and acting weird. I did not notice any increase in water intake and had just checked her BG the previous month (normal). When I saw blood in her urine I rushed her to the vet. Our previous vet had moved away so we started a relationship with a new lady doc. Garbo's BG was 480 and I nearly broke down in tears in the exam room. How did this happen? She was normal just a few weeks before! As soon as the shock wore off I moved into amateur scientist mode, dosing her with antibiotics and pain meds (for the UTI), testing and starting back up with the Lantus injections. You would be AMAZED at how quickly she and I fell back into our testing and shooting routine! I am blessed to have an angel who calmly endures the many pokes. SHE tells ME when it is time for her shot.
This time around no more lurking! Garbo and I are grateful for the help you have provided now and in the past. :smile:
