Hello, Weebus here, we are new to the board but have been reading since we were diagnosed last June. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone as without this website we would be having many problems. I have a friend who is also on Lantus but is not consistant with the dosing both with amounts and times, according to his vet you only give the insulin if the cat has eaten, he is not home testing and only dose frutosamine tests on occasion. His cat is not doing well at all, she is camped at the water dish, urinating a ton and not very regulated on food, eating some Hill's diet (not dm) and some canned. I would like to help but he is "following vets orders" about the dosing. She is on a whopping 11 units, sometimes 13 units depending on the eating. Wow! doesn't that seem like a heck of a lot of Lantus?
How do I help? I have referred him to this site but I am not sure if he is taking my suggestions well at all.
Any other suggestions? He loves his vet so I am not sure if he will take anything well going against his instructions.
Thank you again, without this website I don't think Weebus would be here today.

hi there,
good for you for trying to help your friend!
I would recommend visiting the following links, doing any print-outs if you can for them about Lantus and the possibility of having an insulin resistance kitty (the Acro forum)
Unfortunately, it is up to your friend to come forward if they wish, to learn more about treating diabetes and learning how to dose Lantus, following up with home testing (very recommended!) and a healthy diet of low carb wet food.
