Hello everyone!
I’ve been gone for several years but I’m back with another one of my cats. It’s been a while so I may need a refresher course. Different cat and different insulin than I’ve ever used before.
Rudy is around 13 years old, no previous health issues. In December he had an abscess on his tail that was lanced and he was given antibiotics. He was also having diarrhea and was given meds for that. At the time his glucose was high but the vet wanted to recheck after the infection was cleared up.
He started to get better, gained a little weight and his stool had gotten better but not formed. Then suddenly he started losing weight not matter how much he ate and was drinking tons of water. I knew what those symptoms meant so I made an appointment for a checkup. His kidney values were good, maybe slightly elevated but nothing to be concerned with. His glucose was 500.
Started Lantus 2 units twice a day. They sent him home with Purina prescription wet and dry. He ate once and then I ran to the store to get him foods he would actually eat. My work schedule is insane and I was trying to figure out the best times to give his insulin. I have decided on 10 AM/10 PM. The problem is this time will not always work but it’s the most consistent time I could come up with. I have already run into an issue with tomorrow mornings shot time.
I’m having to work two jobs to make ends meet so I’m gone quite a bit. Tomorrow morning I have a mandatory work appointment during the time he’s supposed to get first shot (10 AM). I’m panicked and don’t know what to do. Please help.
