I replied, Elizabeth, but she is in the UK. Is she using your version of the PZI/ProZinc? Or is it the same as the US ProZinc?

Hi Sue,

She's using US Prozinc. The Royal Veterinary College are trialling it alongside Lantus in a feline remission study they're doing, and Cassandra's cat has been accepted onto the trial. (And so far the trial is seeing more remissions with Prozinc than with Lantus).

Prozinc is licensed for use in the UK now but not yet available to the public. The trial is, potentially, very good news for cats in the UK because, once Prozinc becomes available (assuming it does) vets will be able to prescribe it straight away instead of Caninsulin because Prozinc is also a veterinary insulin. (Vets in the UK have to prescribe a veterinary medicine before prescribing a human one). This may be the case throughout Europe also.

Thanks for replying to Cassandra's post. Until I saw your reply I completely forgot that she's now using Alphatrak meter (since starting the Prozinc trial), so my advice to her was not appropriate. I've amended that.

Eliz
