I’m Ann Marie with two M/F 14 year old sibs. Greta has diabetes for 3 years now and is treated with Lantus. The pandemic wreaked havoc with changes among her vets, conflicting information on treatment and a scary hypo incident that I didn’t even know could happen. I’m aiming to learn and do better for her by starting with testing although current vet doesn’t recommend it. My vet bills will put me in the poor house now that I’ve retired. Thanks for your help.

Hi Ann Marie and Greta and welcome to the forum. We can certainly help you!
Can you tell us a bit about Greta please. The dose, what meter you are using, food you feed, any other health issues, how often you feed.
I am going to give you a link to our spreadsheet, signature and hypo kit and other useful information. Make sure you have your hypo kit set up as you never know when you might need it. However if you are hometesting you will be in control and can act before a hypo happens.
HELP US HELP YOU
If you have any trouble setting up the SS just tell us and someone will help you.

Most vets say hometesting is not necessary but I can assure you it is the only way to keep your kitty really safe.
I would get a human glucose meter as they are much cheaper to run than the pet meters. The pet meter test strips ae very expensive. If you live in theUs you can get a ReliOn Prime meter from Walmart for $9 and 100 test strips for $17.88.
You will also need Box of 100 lancets size 26 or 28 and some cotton rounds to hold behind the ear when you test.
Here is a link to HOMETESTING
If you don’t live in the Us tell us where you live and someone will tell you a good glucose meter to get.

We will be able to help you with dosing and any other questions. We are very data driven and can only help with dosing if a spreadsheet has been set up and we can see the BG data.
Very happy to have you here…..please ask lots of questions. I have lots more I can give you to look at but I don’t want to overwhelm you
