Hi Jill and Tiny and welcome to the forum.
That is a lot of insulin for a newly diagnosed cat. Increasing by 1 unit each week is too fast.
We recommend increasing by 1/4 unit increments.
Just a few questions if you don’t mind.
Are you feeding a low carb canned or wet diet? Diabetic cats do best on a low carb,10% or less canned food diet. There is no need for expensive prescription foods...a lot of them are high carb.
How often are you feeding him? We recommend feeding before the shots and also giving a couple of snacks each cycle as well.
If you are not feeding a low carb diet, please DO NOT change over to a low carb diet until you are home testing the blood glucose levels as the blold glucose can drop 100 points just with a food change and you will risk a hypo without a dose adjustment.
Are you home testing the blood glucose levels? We recommend you home test the blood glucose levels. Cats often run higher at the vet from stress and then the dose is based on that which can be a false reading. We recommend a human glucose meter. Pet meters are not necessary and are too expensive to run. We can help you with that as well.
For the neuropathy, B12 from the vet will not help. You need to get methyl B12 (Zobaline for cats) from life link.com
It is different to the B12 injection the vet has.
It can be sprinkled on the food each day. That and getting the cat into better numbers will help resolve the neuropathy. My cat Sheba had neuropathy badly and couldn’t jump, go up stairs, slipped and slid on the floors and had to sit down every few steps. She eventually returned to her former self after having the Zobaline and getting the blood glucose into better numbers.
I think we can help you.
Would you be willing to home test the blood glucose? We can help you with that. Here is a link to show you.

You would also need to set up a spreadsheet to enter the BG data so we could help you with dosing.
Here is a link to setting up the SS. We can help with that if you can’t do it.

Do you have a hypo kit set up in case of low numbers? Here is a link for new members with the hypo kit link in it

There is a lot more I can help you with and give you links to, but I don’t want to overwhelm you.
