New Member with 16 y/o newly diagnosed with diabetes

Hello! I stumbled on this forum as I researched management options for my Sasha. I must say thank you! Her initial glucose at the vets office was 513. I am giving 2 units vetsulin every 12 hours. I had no idea about testing until I scrolled through the Facebook group this week. I went and bought a ReliOn glucose meter and rest of the supplies. I did an AMPS glucose and then a +4 +8 and PMPS. (Your sites have so much info!). Peak was <300 and nadir was 88. I feel better knowing what we are doing with the insulin. I have copied the excel sheet and filled out known data as of today. I appreciate the firm ground this group has established for a newbie.
 
Hi! Welcome :bighug: FDMB is the best place you never thought you'd be :bighug::bighug::bighug: Great job testing! I have ZERO experience with Vetsulin but per the Beginners Guide, you should reduce by 0.25u immediately for any reading < 90 (i.e. tonight you would shoot 1.75).

@Diane Tyler's Mom do you know who the vetsulin people are (or are you one of them lol)?

Hello! I did create and add Sasha's sheet to my signature line. Sasha has a history of miliary dermatitis for which she had been on Prednisolone. I haven't given that since the diabetes dx because in the little people I take care of steroids raise the glucose. Her liver and kidneys are in good shape (recent labs on sheet too). I will keep testing over the next while and see how things trend. I just found your site this past week and have learned a lot. With her 288 at 8 hrs after a snack I am checking again before her night dose.
