Hi, my cat was diagnosed over a month ago, I am so glad that this forum exists. Orangina is 5 and a half years old, she was very sick but now she is back like we knew her, so kind and playful. I stressed a lot but now it is better, I do my best.

Is it normal that when I sent a curve to the veterinarian (by email), they charged me 89$ (CDN) just to look at it and give me the new insulin dosage? Can you negociate some "diabetic cat starter's kit" fees with your vet?

My vet doesn't charge for looking at curves or any testing I do at home. They would charge if I brought him in and they did the curve in the office. My cat turns into the devil at the vet though, so that's not an option for him.

My vet has a link to my spreadsheet, but I do all insulin changes on my own. I'll ask for his opinion if I need it, but given how much $ we spend at the vet anyway he doesn't charge for stuff like that.

At most, I'd pay for a partial office fee, because it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. Here, my full office fee is $45 USD

Hi and welcome.
There is no need to pay the vet for an opinion of the curve for the dosage of insulin.
If you would like to choose one of our dosing methods, we would be happy to advise you on the dosage.
You would need to set up a spreadsheet to enter your data so we could see it. We couldn’t help without that.

Please consider what Bron said and set up a spreadsheet. I never paid fir my vet to look at Max’s ss and he asked me to send it every few weeks. The only curve done by my vet was after his first shot of insulin.

My Canadian Vet didn’t charge to look at curves of any test results I did. Of course there was a charge for curves in the clinic. Well, OK, the one curve only. It was much cheaper and faster for me to test at home, record data in a spreadsheet, and get help here on what to do with the dose. I did show my vet the dosing method I was using, and also the spreadsheet the first month. Enough so she could trust I was doing the right thing.
