For my first post, I would like to say what a wonderful site this is and so full of wonderful information. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and experiences. My almost 17yo Maine Coon, Sebastian, was diagnosed as a diabetic and initiated Prozinc insulin on August 19. His BG ran in the 500's in the beginning and would never go below 300. He had diabetic neuropathy and could only walk a few steps before plopping over. As you know heartbreaking. Sebastian had been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis in March which of course more than likely caused the diabetes.

To keep a long story short, I found this message board and read EVERYTHING. The Rx that possibly caused the pancreatitis was stopped. d/t the information I read on this message board his food was switched to the wet high protein / zero carb foods made by Tiki Pets. (They were absolutely wonderful in providing the nutritional data). I also started Sebastian on Zobaline.

Well...I guess as you say he is in the honeymoon stage, today marks day 30 with zero insulin.

Thank you very very much, this could not have been happened without all of you.

I do have a question, Sebastian's walking has improved tremendously, but he is still not a stable walker nor the jumper he was prior to being diagnosed. I am considering getting a pet ramp for him to get up on the bed in the middle of the night. I have created steps for him to get on the bed but it is still difficult for him and I do not always hear him before he tries to get up. Has anyone tried a pet ramp? Has anyone found it to be a possible hazard to an injury by falling off.

Thank you everyone!!

Hello Sebastian's mommy! I am overjoyed at Sebastian's remission. What grand news!
BUT I think the folks in the Health forum would like to hear this news

I'm going to ask a moderator to move this thread there so everyone can see the good news

Have you tried methyl B12? Two brands we recommend are Zobaline and Vitacost.

I have used pet stairs for both cats and dogs. If he has problems with steps, you may want to looks at using a pet ramp instead. That is what my sister uses. She has an ottoman at the foot of her bed and a ramp to the top of the ottoman.

Glad you found us! I’m moving this post to the Main Health forum where we ask all new members to post first. Did you get the intro email from us with the instructions? If not, we need to check on that so we can ensure all new members are receiving it.

I don’t want to take away from your post, but it will get more attention on Main Health if you identify yourself as a new member in the subject line. Just click on “thread tools” in your first post and it will let you edit the subject line. That way, more people will see you and can help out.

We are happy to welcome you all!

Thank you, I did, but that was when I initially signed up and but always thought I would be a reader and not a poster. :)
