New member - shot timing

Watson generally eats breakfast around 10 AM and gets his first shot of 2.5 units at that time. He generally has his supper betwen 6-7 PM, but I know he is not due for insulin until 12 hours is up. I currently give him his insulin between 10 and 12 hours Difference (8-10pm) along with a little snack. Is that the right thing to do?

I have switched him over to low carb food that is less than 10% after looking at some of these posts and I did order a young again dry food to use as a treat occasionally. He did get his Libre 2 sensor put on today so I will test for 14 days and try to figure out how to set up his spreadsheet soon.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I would recommend you give the doses of insulin 12 hours apart all the time.
Is there a reason why you are giving the dose at 10 am? Would it be more convenient for you to bring it back to 7 or 8 am? Then you could give the pm dose at 7 or 8 am. He needs to be given a meal before every dose of insulin.
I would recommend a meal before every dose of insulin and then a couple of snacks of low carb food during all the cycles.

When did you switch him over to a lower carb diet? This is great but it would have reduced the BGs somewhat. Did he have his BGs checked after the swap to lower carb food?

You could still feed all the others at the normal time of 6/7 pm and give Watson a snack then as well and then the main meal just before the dose of insulin at 10 pm.
Are you sure it wouldn’t be easier to bring the times of the doses to an earlier time?
I’m glad the dose was reduced with the low carb food introduction.
