Hello everyone on the FDMB!

I cannot thank you all enough for creating and participating in this beautiful, cohesive, massively helpful and supportive group.

My nearly 8 year old cat was diagnosed mid Feb 2025 with a nasty DKA that had her hospitalized for 4 days. We got her home and while it has not been a smooth ride, the information I have found here has answered so many questions.

Thanks to your help I learned that I should not fear the lancet pen, that I can do my own glucose curves and that a low carb diet can make a world of difference.

Penny is looking so much better, back to her sometimes spunky, sometimes sleepy self. Furr back to shiny and healthy, and playing with her sister (Toni) even if her sister isn't up for it.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I see this is your thread.
I am glad to hear Penny has recovered from the DKA. Please be aware she is more prone to ketones developing so always test for ketones in the urine if she is not eating or seems unwell in any way. It is your early warning system.

Looking at your SS I can see you are using Prozinc. I would encourage you to try and get some tests in during the cycles. At the moment you have no idea how low the dose is taking Penny. I am going to tag @Suzanne & Darcy as she is a Prozinc user.

I have been testing for keytones. We had a few days when still figuring out dosage, where her AMPS or PMPS were too low to shoot, so that had me worried about skipping doses. All tests have come back negative

I was able to do my first curve yesterday. It went quite well and I think we are on mostly track with the 0.5u dosage. Getting tests in during the day is a tough one, I'm out of the house from about 7:15am unit 4:30pm each day for work. We recently started using the lancet on the back of the ear (vet had us using a 25G needle inside the ear) so testing has become a lot easier and Penny doesn't even care that its happening. This will make adding tests to the day a lot easier. I will hopefully get some additional readings in this evening.

I understand it is not possible to get tests when you are at work. You can however get a test in sometimes when you come home at 4.30 pm. And you also have the pm cycle. Getting a before bed test in every day is great data. And then you have your days off.
