Hello Everyone,

My boy Ozzy was diagnosed on Tuesday and started Vetsulin, 2 units twice a day. He likely had been sick for a couple of months. The only change that we noticed in him was weight loss and that was sudden. He has always been a big eater and loves his water.

Ozzy's BG was over 500 on Tuesday but this morning it was at 247 before breakfast and 227 a couple of hours later. However, after last night's dose Ozzy became really sleepy but early this morning he seemed like his old self. After this morning's dose, he became really sleepy, again and has hardly moved much all day. He has gotten up a couple of times to eat and during those times he has been "grouchy". He also attempted to jump up on the couch and missed! He is back to sleeping now.

I'm wondering if these changes in his demeanor will subside? Is this a result of his body adjusting? I did call the vet and he reduced his dosage to 1.5 twice a day.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

In Ozzy's best interest we ask that you set up one of these:

FDMB SPREADSHEET INSTRUCTIONS
This way anyone helping you can get a better idea how the insulin is working in Ozzy's body. I PROMISE it will serve yo to do so.

If you have ANY problems we have people that can help you do it all you need do is ask. ;)

I am not sure how much a cat's behaviour can be relied upon to know how his blood glucose is. Recently I have noticed that my cat is more active, and more hungry when his BG is low, and quite sleepy if it is quite high. But the official symptoms for a hypo includes sleepiness.... so that is why I am going bankrupt using test strips....

I am a newbie, and my cat is a rebel, that does not know that his curve is supposed to look like a gentle smile. He is all over the place and keeping me stressed out. However, I see many other well behaved cats that settled in a nice pattern.

Finger's cross Ozzy will be part of the second group!

Welcome to FMDB!

UGH I Apologize I'm jumping from one place to another. sigh you are fine. I'm the one thats not
The sleepiness or lethargy are a sign of too much insulin but you dropped that down. We recommend a starting dose of 1unit but See where this goes. (2 units is a high dose to start with.)

The missing the couch could have been neuropathy OR too much insulin. Can you get another test?
