Question: Lantus dosage for my Leo is 1 unit morning (his readings are usually 150-250) and 1/2 unit in the evening... usually his evening readings are in the 300 to 400s so I just did his blood test and it is 98, makes me nervous to give him the half unit I’m thinking maybe I should give him a quarter unit and retest every two hours ..thoughts please...I have about a half hour before I feed him and give insulin

Good.....test again at shot time and see if he's going up. If he's not going up quickly, stall for 30 more minutes, DON'T feed and test again. If we see that his numbers are climbing pretty well (without the influence of food), it's usually OK to go ahead and shoot.

Also as I said on Facebook, Lantus craves consistency so should be given at the same dose both AM and PM. If he's on a total of 1.5 units per day, you should try .75 in the AM and .75 in the PM.

There's lots for you to read and learn here and I don't want to overwhelm you right now. Once a decision is made for tonight's shot, then maybe you'll have some time to read and learn some new things!

You can start with "How you can help us to help you!"

Don't get overwhelmed by it all....We're all here to help you so just do what you can do without adding any more stress to your life right away.

Well.. I guess I screwed this up I did not see your message I tested it again and it went down to 88 so I just fed him and I’m not giving the dose so I will start all over tomorrow morning and give .75 in the morning and at night
