Hello,
My cat Fei Hei has just been diagnosed with diabetes 2 days ago. This is the first time I am dealing with this disease so I am feeling overwhelmed. I read some of the posts on this forum and have found them useful.
The vet has started him on 3 units of Glargine twice a day. I measure his blood glucose with a device attached to his body. Today is only the second day. The first day seems alright but the second day, his blood glucose was above 28 mmol/L 2 hours before the insulin was due. Finally I fed him at 6.30pm and injected him after his meal but the blood glucose remained high until 10pm.
During those hours, He was lethargic and thirsty. He drank, pee and poo. Now he is asleep while I am typing next to him.
I am wondering how long it will take the vet to find the correct dosage ? I feel very anxious that his blood glucose is high but yet it is not time for insulin. And I keep thinking that when there is so much sugar in him, every minute he is at risk of ketosis. The pharmacy here no longer sell ketones dip stick so I ordered online and will take a few days to arrive.
When my cat is thirsty and lethargic, is there anything I can do to help him be comfortable?
Thank you
