Hello everyone,
My name is Wendy and my cat's name is Scout. Scout is a super friendly, lover of all humans and other animals, official greeter to all who enter our household, chubby (16.5 pounds) black dmsh and just turned 10 years old.
While he loves everyone, our oldest daughter has been his favorite person. Her fiance' moved in with us a year ago and that was a love at first sight relationship too. LOL. Scout spent a lot of time with the two of them and they doted on him like crazy! Well, they moved out this past December and talked about taking Scout with them but we all felt he would be lonely being the only animal in a house alone while they worked. Here, he has lots of friends and activity all day long since we have other animals and I work from home. But I noticed after they moved out that Scout started losing weight. I thought he was eating less because of missing them and the big change in his life. But then I noticed he started drinking a lot more and knew something was not right.
Scout was diagnosed with diabetes 3 1/2 weeks ago. Our vet is awesome and we have been with her for a very long time but I am feeling like her diabetes treatment is very "standard" so I have joined the Facebook group and am now here reading and learning and taking a lot of this into my own hands. He is on ProZinc and I just finally got the hang of home testing so I started doing that more in just the last two days. So far, I have only tested twice a day right before he eats and is ready for an insulin shot. I'm looking forward to learning how to use the spreadsheet to manage his disease correctly more on my own with the support and help of everyone here.
