Hi :) I´m Ara from Mexico. I need advice

My 7 y.o. cat (Sebastian) has just been diagnosed with diabetes. I already have a glucose meter to measere his bg leveles. This are the results from his last studies from the vet https://imgur.com/a/AWHPRWy We started with insulin 2 days ago he is taking 1u twice a day. I already uploaded the spreadsheet but as you can see I'm having some trouble with measuring his BG

1.- I need some tips to pick his ears. He doesn't seem to like the idea very much and moves around a lot :( I tried in his paws but we are not getting enough blood to get a reading with the glucometer

2. I need also some advice with his diet. He is currently eating a mix between royal canin gastrointestinal dry food and chicken, but sometimes he only eats the chicken my concern with this is that he gets diarrhea when he doesn't eats his dry food.
The vet told me not to change the dry food bc he already lost some weight :( I read in this forum that some probiotics might helpbut what are your thoughts in this? should I give him only chicken with probiotics? I check online but it may take a while for the product to arrive

3. What are your thoughts in Tiki cat after dark food, the "Shredded texture"

Sorry for the english it is not my first language. I'm very worried for my cat and I'm looking everywhere for information. Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong in the forum

Hello Lila and welcome. Your English is quite good. And you've posted in the right place.

We have a number of tips and videos to help with testing, look through this post. Hometesting Links and Tips

We have another member from Mexico who put together a food list: MEXICO AND ARGENTINA FOOD CHARTS
@Veronica & Babu-chiri who made the list, has a cat who is no longer on insulin, but she sometimes stops by. Dry food is not the best option for cats, and the Royal Canin foods are too high in carbs for a diabetic. We suggest feeding foods under 10% carbs. Maybe a different protein than chicken would work for him if it's causing diarrhea? Chicken is a common allergen for cats.

Thank you so much! I'm definitely going to check the list and follow the tips, sometimes he gets a lot of blood in his ear :( I guess I'm poking him wrong, my nerves get the best of me but I'm not going to give up
Do you have any other protein recommendations?

Lila I couldn't see his lab results, does Sebastian has any other ilness besides diabetes?

Has the vet given you a reason for the diahrrea?

Is there a reason you are giving Caninsulin? I mean other than the fact that that is the only insulin most vets in Mexico know, because we have Lantus very easily available, no prescription is needed ( and a lot chaper than what people in the US and other countries pay for it) and it is a much better insulin for cats.

Regarding the food, I give Babu a home made recepie because he has a lot of issues, when I give comercial food I give Instinct original chicken recepie or Instinct turkey limited ingredient, ocasionally I give wellness beef and chicken diner pate but as I mentioned I'm very limited in options because of Babu´s condition and age ( he only eats pate types) but there are quite a few more options do take a look at the list they mentioned earlier
