Hello Everyone, I'm Deb and I am not sure if I'm doing this correctly. . . Betsy is my sugar kitty diagnosed 6/20/2021. The vet never had me check BS. Put her on DM canned food and insulin started low (1U) and currently on 3 units twice a day. Her blood sugar is mostly in the 400s which is an improvement after I found this group. I can't seem to get it lower though. I thought maybe the dose was too high so I weaned her down to 2.5 U, but that made her BS go up so I went back up to 3U shots. Any ideas on what I my next step should be. Thanks in advance, Deb

Welcome. You need to give us permission to see your spreadsheet. Was Betsy diagnosed in June of 2020? Would you add to your signature the type of meter you are using, any other medical conditions or medications etc. please?

@tiffmaxee and @thebigfuzz,

I think I made the link public now! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1M1TF9NIH1C_X14xn5wIdPsEiyIrhhf_WgJ-n2g15XhA/edit?usp=sharing

She is not eating DM now. I changed her to tiki cat, and also Friskies pate which is how I got her out of the 500s. No more dry food either. started on methyl B-12 for her neuropathy. she was not using her litter box, and I was at my wits end. Now she is going to her box, thank goodness. She's walking some better, not great. no ketones at last glucose curve with Vet, though her lowest BS was in the mid 500s. That's when I found the FB page and now this site. I use a human meter Relion. Last What's a kibble?

Kibble is dry food. Read the dosing methods please and tell me which one you think would be best for you. I’m going to look at your ss.

I am thinking the Start Low, Go Slow as I don't think she will let me poke her 5 times a day. LOL! Kibbles. . .I refer to as "grain" which she loves. I am no longer giving it to her since I started the BS checks on the spreadsheet. I think her vet is not familiar with diabetics as she has never been regulated since this whole thing started last June. She's had X-rays, labs, ultrasound. . .EVERY TEST has been perfectly normal EXCEPT blood sugar high.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Here’s what I see. You aren’t getting any mid cycle tests at night. She might be going low at night and then bouncing by morning. That’s very common. My cat did that. You also are not testing before each shot. Lantus is based upon how low it takes your cat. For most that happens around +4-7 but some cat have late nadirs. For most cats a+2 test gives you an idea whether that cycle might be active requiring monitoring. If it’s the same or lower than the preshot more tests need to be done. If higher probably not. So I suggest a preshot and +2 or +3 for every cycle and if lower than the preshot a +6-7.

Thank you! I will test her several times tonight and tomorrow to see what I can learn.

You don't have to test several times in the day/night yet. Especially if Betsy will not allow it :-)
Like Elise (@tiffmaxee ) said, just one additional test per cycle should be fine - a test between +3 and +7 during the day (get tests at different times on different days) and one before bed test every night should be enough to start with. :-)
