NEW MEMBER!! 66 mg/dL BEFORE feeding and infection

Last night my newly diagnosed cat (10/23) had a hypoglycemic event. People in the Facebook group helped me and got us through the night. Thinks we're trending well today and now testing before he ate, reading was 66. Do I skip an injection?

Edit: Prior to last night he had been prescribed 3u every 12 hrs. I know now from last night, this is likely incorrect. this morn I gave him 1u as he was at 300 and I watched it go down to 125 then within 3 1/2 hours he's now down to 66.

Hello @imrug! Welcome to the FDMB forum. This post is likely to be moved to the main board, as the moderators like for new folks to post there first (posts are more visible over there). Do you have a spreadsheet for your kitty that shows his/her recent numbers? Here is a post that will help us help you: Thread 'New? How You Can Help Us Help You!'

@Tim & Pookey, can you move this post to the main forum?

attached are the readings from the glucometer app

Hello and welcome. The Lantus board is a very busy board so we request that people post here until they get things set up, like their signatures and spreadsheets. The thread that Mary linked in post two has details on how to do that. We can help you set up a spreadsheet if you need help. The reason we ask for spreadsheets is that it's a common format for blood sugar data. We've been using it for years and those of us who have looked at a lot of spreadsheets find them to be really useful tools.

Since you are new, I'd recommend a skip, as long as he is not recovering from DKA or showing ketones. We suggest that new people skip under 200 at first as long as there is no DKA/ketones history. Can you tell us a bit about how he was diagnosed?

Lantus is a depot style insulin, the 3 unit depot is probably influencing the numbers today. 3 units is a rather larger dose than what we'd start with.

Have you made any recent changes to your cat's diet? What are you feeding now?

What is his name?
