Hi. I am just checking in and getting started. I want to see if my signature is correct. I have not entered any data on my spreadsheet as I don’t have any numbers yet. Still getting the courage up to add daily BS to Boots’ day.

Hi Jackie, you mentioned DKA episode on your first post
Please add that to your signature it's important the members know this
Thank you
@Jackie55

Ok. That was how she was diagnosed. We were out of town and my mom was caring for her. I had not seen or recognized any changes in Boots until we got home. Took her to our vet and was shocked to say the least.

Thanks for adding that, can you also add the meter you plan on using to your signature also
So as of now you aren't home testing?
You are shooting 2 units of basaglar now?

No - our vet did not suggest it and we started her dose at 1u, went to 2, then 4 and now she gets 6-7 in the am and 5 at night. She is ravenous all the time so still not in control. When she had the Libre monitor on she was almost always over 250. I was keeping careful records and talking to the vet every 5 days or so. But since the Libre came off - after the first 3 or 4 weeks I have been trying to treat her based on activity and her fructosamine levels which our vet prefers to be over 200. So that is way I started researching more online and looking for more help, When I googled “weak legs and feline diabetes” I found the site.
I did order the methylcobamalin for her. And I ordered her her own meter which is not here yet but she and my husband can share strips as he only test 2xper day on himself and has an abundance. I can not use his monitor because his doctor uploads his data at his visits.
So in answer to your question - no I am not doing home testing yet.

We do not increase doses by full units at a time , you could be skipping over a good dose for your kitty. We increase or decrease by 0.25 units
Are you using syringes with half unit markings? Or just using the pen which you can only dose in full units.
We just insert the syringe into the pen and draw out the insulin
We can tell you where to buy them
Giving different 6 or 7 units in the AM and 5 units at night is not working
You should be dosing the same amount for both cycles
Dosing different doses is messing up the depot
Did you order your kitty a human meter?
Doing a fructosamine test is not helpful, its not telling you how the insulin's is working for your kitty , how low he's dropping, only testing him everyday will tell you

I linked your previous post above and I see that
@Sienne and Gabby (GA)

I'm going to tag them for you, maybe they can explain things better to you than I can
Sienne, Elise Bhooma, and Marje can you please read these posts, I have linked her previous post above
I tried to explain a few things to her but I feel you can explain things better than I can, I appreciate it

Those increases are way too fast. We increase initially by .25 and hold depending on which method you follow either 3-7 days. We give the same dose both cycles. Without any data I can’t give dosing advice. I’m very concerned though that your cat is overdosed.

Thanks for seeing this Elise I appreciate it
I've told her all I could

Thank you all for your concern. I am an RN and I do understand diabetes and insulin. Boots dose was increased to her current dose when we were monitoring her with the Libre monitor so we knew her blood sugar every hour as we could scan her. Her dose has not changed since the Libre monitor was discontinued. I use syringes to give her insulin as it is more accurate in my opinion. She has NEVER had a hypoglycemic episode. I will begin checking her blood sugar at home and reach out if I need help. I just wanted to be sure I had the signature and SS in place.

How cats react to insulin is not the same as humans. Too much insulin can look like too little. Cats bounce when they go too low or drop too fast. Checking every 4 hours could miss the nadir. I urge read to read the stickies at the top of the lantus forum.

Btw if your cat truly needs that much insulin it is suggested to get her tested for IAA and ACRO.
