Hello all!
Glad to join this informative forum! :-D
After numerous visits to the vet, many tests and not liking the way our cat was acting, Jerry our cat, was just diagnosed with diabetes. At first the vet thought he may have had Cushings disease which is extremely rare in cats. We are glad that was not the case.
I/we will be visiting this site on a regular basis as we understand that treating Jerry is like taking care of a baby, constant monitoring and giving him his insulin shots. Sine this is all NEW to us, we will be looking for guidance and help when necessary.

Thanks everyone.....

Ken

Welcome to FDMB, Ken and Jerry.

So when you say monitoring, are you home testing the blood glucose? We strongly advocate doing that to keep your kitty safe. all you need is an inexpensive home glucometer such as the WalMart ReliOn Confirm/Confirm micro (also available as the Arkray USA Glucocard 01/01Mini from ADW)

What are you feeding? We support feeding low carb, over the counter, canned or raw food. Cat Info, written by Vet Lisa Pierson, explains why. Unless you are home testing, though, keep the food the same. Food changes can drop the glucose 100 mg/dL which will alter insulin requirement.ss.

Hi Ken (and Jerry),

Welcome to FDMB!

A diagnosis of feline diabetes can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you will soon get the hang of things.

Is Jerry on insulin yet? If so, what type and what dose?
